What is the proper way to drink cognac?

And is it different if you're drinking regular cognac, such as Courvoisier VS or Remy Martin, as opposed to champaign cognac, such as Courvoisier VSOP?|||Definitely at room temp from a snifter...DON'T heat it up first like some do. It only causes the alcohol to evaporate and ruins the experience.

The lower quality Cognacs (VS's) can be mixed with whatever but anything of the VSOP quality or above should not. There is, however, a campaign by the Hennessey people to drink their XO on the rocks...anything to increase sales!|||one sips ones cognac if one doesnt want to fall on ones a$$|||slowly.|||Neat (straight, room temperature) from a snifter. Applies to all better Congnacs and Brandies.

Bert|||It sure is different. You want to savor the good stuff and avoid the poor-quality cognacs. A good cognac is like a cat in velvet slippers scampering down your throat. A cheap cognac is like the same cat, without the slippers, being pulled out by the tail.

A snifter is a must, but one that you can cup in your hand. The hand adds just the right amount of heat to a baseball-sized snifter to evaporate enough of the cognac to let you savor the aroma before slowly letting the liquid slide down your throat.

Actually, I prefer armagnac but that's another question for another day.|||Neat, room temp and in a snifter.|||In a big a$$ snifter with a smoking jacket and a pipe.. next to a fire in a comfy chair.|||alone!!!.... to feel the taste in you mouth ...enjoy it!!! with class!! ..dont mix it !! dont drink it fast keep it in your mouth for about 8 seconds then swallow it but ...slow..!|||Room temp to lukewarm in a large snifter. Drink slowly and savor the flavor, and, no there's no difference in the way you're supposed to drink the different brands whether it's top shelf or bottom, but if you're going to make a mixed drink, use the cheap stuff.|||old school, in a brandy/cognac sniffer
